South Side Innovation Center in Syracuse joins as new member
BIA/NYS welcomes to membership the South Side Innovation Center (SSIC), a large and very modern microenterprise business incubator affiliated with the South Side Entrepreneurial Connect Project at Syracuse University. The entire project operates under the auspices of the Whitman School's Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises.
SSIC occupies a beautifully renovated former warehouse adjacent to the Dunk and Bright furniture showroom on South Salina Street, a main commercial corridor leading from the South Side to downtown. SSIC includes 15 private partitioned spaces on the ground floor, open space for presentations and training, a well equipped computer training lab, and a resource library with computer workstations that can be used by resident and "virtual" tenants alike. Some photos appear in our gallery. An additional seven partitions are under construction on the second floor, and also offices that will be used by a "mentor/protegé" project being introduced by Managing Director Monica Hughley (watch for further news).
Other components of the South Side Entrepreneurial Connect project housed at the same facility include the Syracuse Community Test Kitchen, operated in partnership with SUNY Morrisville State College's Nelson Farms co-packing enterprise, and the WISE Center (Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship) a counseling and support program for women entrepreneurs. The entire facility also provides a focal point for student consulting teams from SU to work with both resident and non-resident entrepreneurs in the South Side.
