Biomedica, tenant at SUNY Downstate Advanced Biotech Incubator, receives Army award for clot agent

Biomedica Management Corporation, an R&D company headquartered at our supporting member the SUNY Downstate Advanced Biotechnology Incubator, announced it has received a $1.5 million award from the U.S. Army Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) to complete the development of the non-compressible hemostatic agent “ClotFoam."

This technology, with important applications in laparoscopic surgery and combat trauma, is now advancing into the regulatory process toward commercialization. Since its foundation in 2004, the company has been awarded 14 grants by the National Institutes of Health, DARPA, the U.S. Army and others to bring to market three coagulopathy-related technologies in hemostasis, sepsis and resuscitation fluids. The company is headquartered at the SUNY Downstate incubator in Brooklyn with additional facilities at an incubator in the University of Maryland system.
