Our university-based incubators and the first round of the state’s START-UP NY tax-free zones

Our member incubators and research parks played roles in the first wave of approvals announced by Governor Cuomo under the START-UP NY tax-free program. In each case, we have at least one member incubator that has been heavily involved in preparing and guiding applications and may comprise part of the approved zone. Also in all cases, our members operate university-affiliated Innovation Hot Spots or Certified Incubators whose graduates will be eligible for consideration for entry into START-UP NY zones as if they were companies new to the state.

According to a news release from the Governor’s office, companies were approved for benefits in tax-free zones at the University of Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology, Cornell University, and SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Additional news releases can be found at the websites of the University at Buffalo, the Rochester Institute of Technology, and Cornell University.
