NYC Regional Innovation Node (NYCRIN) joins BIA/NYS

The NYC Regional Innovation Node (NYCRIN), one of only several “nodes” nationwide recognized by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Innovation Corps (I-Corps) program, has joined BIA/NYS as our newest member. The NYCRIN has also been designated by Empire State Development/NYSTAR as the Innovation Hot Spot for New York City, giving it authority to convey certain tax benefits to startup firms in its program or served by affiliated incubators with physical space.

Led by the City University of New York (CUNY), the NYCRIN is a collaboration with NYU and Columbia and serves a four-state region. The I-Corps program pairs NSF-funded science and engineering faculty across the region with entrepreneurial supports and mentors. It steps these teams through a “lean launchpad” curriculum inspired by serial entrepreneur Steve Blank, all designed to help them identify potential commercial markets and customers for laboratory discoveries. The NYCRIN is essentially a pre-incubation or proof-of-concept program.

We warmly welcome NYCRIN to membership!
